Today was our last class for our Human Geography class. Same as last class, we practically had another free class to do whatever we want so we didn't accomplish much. As my last Human Geo class, I move on to Western Civilization next semester. Western Civ seems that it will be an interesting course to take.
We went over lots of different topics this semester for Human Geo. We went over things like Globalization, and world problems and a lot of other different stuff. We did numerous projects, for an example the solution to ISIS where we had to come up with a solution to the problem with ISIS and the refugees in Syria. I can say I learned more about Human Geography then I knew coming into the class and found the course interesting.

1/13 blog
Today in class we took our test. It will be our last test because semester two has ended. Human Geography becomes Western Civilization and a whole new topic starts. The test was kinda tricky with some questions I didn't know but there's always that 1/5 chance I have of getting it right off of a guess. Human Geography was good this year, learning all new things. I learn about different cultures and globalization and a lot of other stuff too. I'd say it was an interesting semester.

Today in class we prepped for the test we have tomorrow. Here are notes I took today:
Earth has cycled
between ice ages and thaws for eons
Humans had become
more resourceful and effected the climate
Our impact has
included raising the planet's temperature by 1.2 F to 1.4 F in the last hundred
years.
Compare this to your
basic pattern of glacial periods which usually last between 40,000 to 100,000
years.
It's human activity
which drives the temperatures up so quickly.
Burning fossil fuels
(Oil, gas, other petroleum products; coal) produces carbon dioxide
Carbon dioxide
intensifies the greenhouse effect, which causes heat to be reflected back to
Earth
Carbon dioxide and
methane have reached their highest levels in 420,000 years.
Sources: Cars,
factories, power plants, trucks, jets, cement production, etc.
Rising sea levels
could flood coastal areas around the world.
Severe drought that
could become more prominent in warm areas.
Species unable to
adapt to the changing conditions would face extinction.
The temperature of
the Earth's oceans has risen more than 0.3 degrees Fahrenheit since 1969,
causing:
A 30% rise of
acidity in the ocean's chemistry.
Certain species,
such as oysters and clams, to become calcified.
Shallow water corals
to become increasingly at risk.
Placing the entire
ocean food chain ("food web") in danger.
Since 1994, each
year (On average) the Earth has lost from its glaciers:
4000,000,000,000
Tons
Climate Change: A
long term change in the Earth's overall temperature with massive and permanent
ramifications.
Recycle and reuse
are ways to help the environment.

Today in class we talked about gas and how it is involved in our economy and how electric cars affect it. Electric cards effect the selling of gas at gas stations because electric cars do not need gas. Therefore, the owners of the gas station will not be making any money off of them because they don't need their gas. If electric cars take over, then that will leave gas stations a thing of the past, along with the gas powered cars. People want to switch to the electric car because they think that it saves the planet, which is does, from things like global warming. Major companies tried to dispel that global warming was a thing by stating in an ad of the New York Times that the scientists are either wrong or lying about the state of global warming. They need people to purchase their product so they can stay in business and not go bankrupt due to no one buying their product.

1/5 Blog
Today in class we watched two videos on our new topic. They were both about global warming. One was from the Bill Nye the Science Guy show. The first video we had watched was made back in 2007. Some of the stuff may not be true due to the gap in the years between in which the video was made and now. It had brought up good points about how we're making global warming worsen. In the video they expressed that global warming was real. Most people didn't believe in global warming, and so they thought this whole global warming thing was false. It is actually true as the Earth is getting hotter.
In the Bill Nye video he, like the first video, confirmed the existence of global warming and talk about the affects that it can have on us. He talked about why global warming is happening and ways we can help stop it by doing energy saving tasks like using a different energy saving light bulb.
Global Warming: "Global Warming is a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and others pollutants".
