10/29 blog
Today in class we finished the video. Pretty much the whole video was summing up the problems in Japan, India and Africa. In Japan, the problem Is that the population is going down. This is due to the problem of there are so many seniors living in Japan. There are not enough children too keep the population number high. In India, the problem are the births and abortions. Most women don't want many children, but they are forced to because of their husband wanting a boy. If they get a sonogram of the baby and it is a girl, they may chose to abort it. Finally in Africa, aids is a major problem. It is spread by prostitution throughout people causing the disease to spread throughout Africa. They also have economic problems with raising kids and deaths in the family.

10/28 Blog
Today in class we continued watching the video. We learned about how in India people of young age are being forced to take care of their families. There was a young lady in the video who was about 16 years old, and she was forced to take care of her family, all five of them. Their parents had died, and so she was the eldest and she had to take over. HIV Aids is very common in India. Many people get it from other people. Prostitution is a main way of getting the disease everywhere. The lady I was talking about before had to get into prostitution in order that she would be able to help her family out because no one would hire her. Eventually, she got HIV Aids, and had the break the news to her family. She would most likely not survive from this.

Today in class we continued watching the video on population and birth rates. In India, children are being forced too live in harsh environments. Abortions are a big problem in India, with the sonar doctors telling whether the baby is a boy or a girl. This means that if the baby is a girl, and she hasn't been born yet, odds are the baby will be aborted.
A problem in Japan, is that the rate of age is one out of every three person in Japan as of the moment, are seniors. This means that the population is going to keep decreasing unless this is changed.

Today in class we watched a video on Japans population and birth rates in India. Firstly, in Japan, school enrollment is way down, being that in the video a boys class was just him since kindergarten. It was also noted that 1/3 of everyone living in Japan is currently a senior. This is not good for Japan, since they're population will be just decreasing.
In India, every woman is expected to bear at least six children. This is because of two reasons: One is that the husband of the woman will usually want to have a least two or three boys. This is because in the Indian culture the boy will grow up to take care of his family and so on with the boys son. The second reason is due to children dying. In India currently, 1/10 children live to the age of five. So if a family has a boy, and only one boy, if he dies at the age of five and the mother cannot conceive any more children, they will not have someone to take care for them in their old age. Conceiving a girl is also bad to the husbands, being that if they have too many girls, he will often beat or burn the woman for not bearing a boy, which is not her fault.

Extra Credit Blog
Kiva is a non profit organization which helps out people who are in need of money. You donate money (25 or more dollars) and then you will get repaid. So if I were to donate to someone on Kiva who needed the money, I would donate then get repaid some time later. It's practically like a bank funding loans.
I researched two members on Kiva and this is what I found:
Jean Marie Vinney:
He is an entrepreneur in south Africa who owns a milk collection. He needs 14,500 dollars to help fund a truck to increase the capability of milk at his center. If he gets this truck, he will be able to distribute three times the amount of milk he does currently without the truck. As of right now, he is 36% done with his needed loan to be able to buy the truck.
Ronald:
Ronald is a small farmer who needs 600 dollars to be able to buy himself a motorcycle. He is married with five children and does lots of farm work. Without the motorcycle, it is hard for him to go to markets and such because of his poor transportation. With the motorcycle, he will be able to go to markets to help support his farm work.
Kive is a very helpful site for people in need. This site helps people all around the world to improve their life and daily activities. From milk collector to needing a vehicle to get around. Everything Kiva does it helpful towards the people requesting loans. It is a safe website to be able to donate around the world. You will practically always get your loan money back from the people you have loaned too, so your pretty much losing no money what so ever. Kiva is a very good idea with very good intentions.

10/21 blog
Today in class all we pretty much did was go over the test. I didn't do as well as I had hoped but it wasn't awful. I had messed up on figuring out what the GDP is. Now I know that GDP stands for Gross Domestic Product and is the broadest quantitative measure of a nation's total economic activity. Also, Gross Domestic Product represents the monetary value of all goods and services produced within a nation's borders over a specified period of time. I had also some trouble finding some of the answers from the CIA world fact book like for example Canada's oil. Another one was United States education. It was difficult, but I feel although I could have studied the CIA world fact book more than I did.

In class today we watched a video on the Newsroom. It had talked about how this anchor to a news program was invited to a political show. They had been discussion political things, when the anchor was then asked in two words to describe America being the best country. He began talking about how America is not the greatest country, giving examples of facts. He had said that America was number one in the world for only four things, none of them being positive. One of them was that we have the greatest number and percentage of criminals jailed. America can still need improving, and personally I agree America is not the greatest country at the moment.
We then began going over our homeworking and asking questions based off of the homework we had. We had to go through the C.I.A fact book to get out answers to the questions.

10/5 blog
Today in class we looked at a website with a ton of information on it about the whole world and it's countries. It had all the countries and offered a vast ton of information towards whatever country you wanted to look at. We looked at places like Germany and the U.S. For example, through the website you can find out how many people are currently living there. You can also find out the percent of English speaking people in the U.S, Spanish speaking people in the U.S, and so on throughout all the other countries. We also saw a huge list of all the countries in the world and how they are doing with people coming in and people coming out. The United States was around the 30's, with us getting a lot of legal and illegal immigrants. Without them, our number on the list would definitely be lowered. Most places on the bottom of the list were there because of wars and people wanted to leave to find a safe haven elsewhere. It was a very resourceful website and I'm going to be using it in the future.

10/2 Blog
In class today we discussed birthrates and immigration. With birthrates, obviously the population is growing. It is estimated that an average of 353,000 children are born per day. Every say four years, the world's popular will rise by about a billion people. As of right now, we have about seven billion people, with possibly being that in 2017 we will have added another billion.
Another discussion topic was immigration. Immigration is a big thing in some places. For example, in the United States people will hire foreigners because they are known to work harder than an average American. Most people will hire foreigners for lower class jobs that pay less that others wouldn't want to do themselves. This helps the economy and businesses, being that immigrants are in the United States with them supporting local businesses by buying their groceries and such. Whether they are illegal or not, this gives a big increase of the population.

10/1 Blog
Today in class we discussed some things like how in some countries people will live longer than someone living in another country. For example, someone in Monaco will lives a lot longer than somebody living in Chad. This is because of how the place is prospering. In Chad, Africa there is a lot of hunger and starvation. This is not as big a problem in Monaco. This is the same for other places as well.
We also discussed how women and men have a different life expectancy. In this, women are statistically recorded to live longer than men. This is because men usually have harder jobs, and there are currently a lot more men in the military than women. Another reason that was explained was that women tend to go to the doctor the day or so after feeling ill. In mans cases, they will try and tough it out for a few months and then find out when they finally go to the doctor that it is too late and they are very sick which could have been prevented had they come in sooner.
